Steph Brown — Solicitor and Law Tutor

Steph is a qualified solicitor and law lecturer with over 25 years in legal practice and more than 15 years’ experience in legal education.

Since the introduction of the SQE, Steph has worked directly with candidates preparing for both SQE1 and SQE2, developing a detailed understanding of what examiners look for and where candidates most commonly lose marks.

In 2025, Steph co-authored Client Interview, Attendance Note and Legal Analysis for SQE2, a practical resource designed to help candidates navigate the Interviewing component of the SQE2 examination.

Our SQE content is reviewed by a qualified solicitor and Senior Lecturer at a UK university law school, where she currently teaches SQE Dispute Resolution, Civil Litigation and Skills. She brings over 20 years’ experience in private practice and in-house litigation, specialising in Civil and Commercial Litigation, Personal Injury and Clinical Negligence. She holds current External Examiner responsibilities across postgraduate legal practice programmes at two universities and is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and a qualified Civil and Commercial Mediator.

Mark Draper – Co-Founder

I’m Mark Draper, the co-founder of Solicitor Qualification. My background is in digital marketing and business operations: 17 years as Head of Product Operations at Verastar, and since then running my own digital businesses and content platforms. I was a UK Blog Awards finalist in 2019.

I built Solicitor Qualification because people researching the SQE route were wading through information spread across dozens of sites, often out of date and vague on the details that matter. The goal was one reliable resource — factually accurate, editorially independent, and kept current.


The content is written and reviewed by qualified solicitors and legal academics. My role is to make sure the platform works and that everything here genuinely helps you navigate your route to qualification.
